Card sorting

Card sorting is a quick and inexpensive way to get input into your information design process. Using teams from inside and outside the organisation can reveal differences between the customers and employees view of the organisation's structure.

Whether you are designing a new website or redesigning an existing one, card sorting can provide useful insights into how your users expect to find information on your site. When performed by more than 2 or 3 groups, patterns may emerge that reveal common mental models for the subject area.

What we do

Depending on your project requirements we either ask participants to sort cards showing site in a way that would make most sense to them, or we ask them to sort the cards according to a pre-defined set of groups.

We set up and facilitate the card sorting sessions, working with you to ensure that representative users are involved. When analysing the results we look for patterns in the data. In some cases we may use cluster analysis software.

We present to you a summary report with a proposed hierarchy for the information architecture.
